Sunrise in Key West
Sunrises in Key West
The seasons are hard to tell apart here. The daytime highs were in the low 80's in late January.

Water, water, everywhere. Key West is a small island -- 4 miles wide by 6 miles long. Perched at the end of a long series of islands, or keys, Key West is about 100 miles from the mainland. It is, literally, the edge of the U.S.

A Walk Along Smathers Beach
Smathers Beach is the largest beach in Key West and is a popular place for  morning exercise. The sand here is silky smooth and is kept spotless by early morning cleanings. A beached jellyfish turns iridescent in the early morning sun. Birds are ever watchful for stray  bits of food.

In the Tropics
There is an unmistakable feel of the tropics here. From here, Cuba is 90 miles away. The plant life is lush and colorful. A car painted with colorful maple leaves stands in stark contrast to the islands's plantlife.

The Key West Cemetery is an above ground cemetery due to the high water table. Stone coffins are stacked atop each other.
